HOW HOPEH STARTED
HOPEH inc. was founded in 1998 by Marline Olivier, a Haitian American living in USA. Since the foundation of HOPEH, many others have joined Marline to build the organization that provides medical care and education to help the Haitian people, especially those who live in the mountain of a village call Juampas. Near the City of Lascahobas, in the North East part of Haiti, Marline's dream was to leave Haiti and become flight attendant so that she could travel around the world to see the condition and the lives of other people. In 1984 one of Marline's dreams became reality. Hoping to escape poverty, unemployment and political strife in Haiti, Marline's parents migrated to the United States.
Having grown up in a poor mountain village with no running water, no electricity or no sewer system, Marline experienced cultural shock once she arrived in the U.S. But she also realized she had more opportunity and she knew that those who stayed behind in Haiti were still facing extreme hardship. Marline remembers thinking, "This is a reality that I can not turn my back on." Married with four children and a beautiful family, Marline is living the American dream, but she has founded HOPEH because as she says, "I traveled around the world but no place compares to my beloved island, Haiti. I still never forget the very painful memory of my childhood in Haiti. I must go back; I have to save the lives of the children, especially in the poor villages of Haiti. Marline's faith in God helps her to accomplish her dream."
OUR VISION
HOPEH aims to let the beauty and dignity of God's love shine through the residents of the central plateau in Haiti. We reach out to churches, individuals, and organizations, in collaboration with the Haitian people, to improve the health and education of the community.
OUR MISSION
HOPEH mission is to enable the villagers of Haiti to recover their beauty and dignity as people made in the image and likeness of our Lord by providing them with the tools and environment that will allow them to be self-sustaining and in turn to teach others.
HOPEH TODAY
The Haitian Organizational Program for Education and Health (HOPEH) is a nonprofit, 501(c) 3 organization and was initially formed by Marline Olivier in 1998. Medical Wings collaborates with us to take packages, medicine, and supplies to Haiti. The organization has grown over the years and subsequently included a partnership with the Carroll County Haiti Mission Project (CCHMP). Both the Medical Wings and the CCHMP were already engaged in providing limited humanitarian relief in Haiti, in particular with orphanages in the Port-au-Prince area. Together with the CCHMP, the HOPEH initiated construction of a medical clinic in Juampas which was finally opened in 2006. During the construction of the medical clinic, other educational and public health needs became evident and the HOPEH has been accepting monetary and nonmonetary donations to make other advancements in terms of education and medicine in the Juampas area.
Since that time, HOPEH has two boards (US and in Haiti) that govern the operations and programs for HOPEH, Inc. We have many humanitarian projects that are developed but need further funding to maintain and expand them such as: New Primary School (Marie-Louise School), building a dental clinic, nutrition program (Plumpy Nut), Soup Kitchen, Water filtration units, Vaccination program for the children, Mission opportunities, Research and development opportunities on international public health programs. Haiti is the considered the poorest country in the western hemisphere. There are too many resources in the world to not share with other countries less fortunate especially those with great devastation. This country of Haiti and city of Juampas need our help. We have dedicated ourselves to make a difference and enhance the quality of life in the areas of education and health.
